Travel Notes | 2023 Shanghai Tour #2 Grand BilibiliWorld
BilibiliWorld, one of the largest domestic anime and game shows in China, is also an annual offline gathering of b-station uploaders and users.
I've been attending major anime and game shows in Beijing and Shanghai since 2017, but this was my first time attending BilibiliWorld, which counts as a more integrated yet purer kind of anime and game show than ComiCup's homage show, I Joy's commercial comics show, and ChinaJoy's digital entertainment show. Because it's directly associated with China's largest anime video site, you can get direct access to all sorts of anime IPs and anime games here, rather than the kind of anime peripheral peddlers (which are extremely numerous at commercial comics shows) that pit people against each other, so it's said to be pure. And at the same time BW also has a lot of other parts that are related to the anime, such as anime clothing, Vtuber, voice actors and singers meeting and so on, so it's also quite comprehensive.
Of course, this year's BW went even further than before, with the gaming section even bringing in a number of hardware manufacturers, including ASUS, Dell, Intel, etc. The wealth of exhibitors has already surpassed this year's ChinaJoy, and these manufacturers are happy to show off their new technologies at this anime-focused show, which is also very appealing to the geeks.
Today was already the last day of BW, but the crowd was still hot. The queue outside the venue started to grow gradually from 1am, and by the time the first gate started letting people in at 5am, the queue was already shooting up to the intersection a few hundred metres away to the south. (Ticketing for the show didn't start until 9am.)
The best thing to see in the gaming hardware section is ASUS, which brought itsROG and Tianxuan series this time. As we all know, ASUS has been ploughing into the anime market in mainland China for many years, giving birth to the unique anime Tianxuan Series (TUF overlay) and ROG Chuixue Series. Thanks to Uncle Tony, the boss of ASUS China, ASUS has been flourishing in mainland China. Intel also brought their own discrete graphics card this time and provided a live demo. Unfortunately most gamers won't make Intel graphics cards their first choice.
